Course Withdrawal
Students can withdraw from a maximum of six credit hours during their time at VT. The printable withdrawal form is available via this link.
- Students must be sure there are no holds on their accounts, or else their withdrawal will not be processed. Students cannot withdraw from a class in which an honor violation is pending.
- Students who withdraw from Physics must retake the lab.
- Students who withdraw from ENGL 1106 or 1204H cannot get advanced standing credit for ENGL 1105; they must take ENGL 1105.
- Consequences of Course withdrawal:
- Course withdrawal does NOT change the number of credits the student has; students simply receive a "W" grade in the course, which does not affect their GPA and should not have a significant negative impact.
- Students must pass at least 75% of their classes in order to receive financial aid the following semester. A withdrawn course counts as a course that was not passed (it is not failed, either), so if students are less than full-time or have trouble with any other classes, it could affect aid for the following semester
- Despite this, international students must ATTEND at least 12 credits per semester. If they want to use course withdrawal, and they have less than 12 credits on their schedule, they need to fill out a form at the Cranwell International Center, they must "attend" the class (at least take the exams), and they must wait until the week before the last week of classes to file the withdrawal. Therefore, we strongly suggest that international students meet with a representative at Cranwell before any withdrawals are submitted.
