The Department of Engineering Education is the home to first-year engineering students.
The educational objectives of the General Engineering Program are focused around freshman engineering students being prepared for academic success in a degree-granting engineering program.

At the conclusion of the freshman year course sequence an engineering student must be able to:

  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the engineering profession
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of professional skills in engineering
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of and capacity for problem solving.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of and ability in engineering graphics communication.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the engineering design process.
  • Demonstrate a basic awareness of current global issues impacting engineering practice

  • CAEE TutorTrac - Tutors for all freshman and sophomore courses. Registration and appointment necessary. Free of charge.
  • Project Success - Program designed to help students on academic probation return to good academic standing.
  • Math Emporium - Tutors for Math classes and MATLAB in the back of the emporium. Free. No appointment necessary.

  • Chemistry Learning Center - Tutors for Chemistry Classes. 301 ChemPhys Bldg. (M-Th, 10 am - 4 pm). Free of charge.
  • Writing Center - Assistance with writing papers. Free. 340 Shanks Hall.
    (M-F, 9 - 5 pm)
  • Night Owl Writing Help - 4th Floor Newman Library, near elevators. (Su-Tue, 7 - 9 pm)
  • CommLab - Help with presentations. 205 Newman Library. Free of charge.
  • Help with Study Skills
    • Study Skills Self Help - Cook Counseling Center provides helpful links to improve studying, note taking, and test taking.
        • UNIV 1004 - Three Credit Class. Restricted to freshmen or students having a gpa of 2.5 or less.
