Freshman Engineering First Year Course Summary
The following courses are based on the assumption that the student has no Advanced Placement (AP), Advanced Standing (AS), or transfer credit. This assumption is actually not valid for many of our students, since most of them have some credits when they enter, but this is the most consistent way to represent the courses required.
The typical first semester is enrollment in Math 1114 & 1205, Chem 1035 & 1045, English 1105, EngE 1024, plus an elective. The "typical" second semester follows with Math 1206 & 1224, English 1106, EngE 1104 or EngE 1114, Phys 2305, plus an elective (ECE 1574, CS 1705, or General Chemistry as noted below).
In addition to the courses listed above:
- Students interested in pursuing Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering should take Problem Solving with C++ (ECE 1574) in the second semester.
- Students interested in pursuing Chemical Engineering or Biological Systems Engineering must take General Chemistry and the associated laboratory (Chem 1036,1046) in the second semester, also.
- Students interested in Computer Science should take Introduction to Object-Oriented Development (CS 1705) in their second semester.
