Certificate in Engineering Education
Our Graduate Certificate in Engineering Education is popular with students from across the College of Engineering, Requiring 13 credits, the certificate is complementary to graduate study in a traditional engineering discipline and serves to brand the recipient as someone who has made the decision to learn more about education of engineering students. The certificate is also complementary to the Future Professoriate Graduate Certificate offered by the Graduate School in the sense that with careful selection of electives, students can earn both degrees at the same time.
The Certificate program is designed for graduate students in engineering and related disciplines interested in engineering education who wish to explore teaching practices specific to engineering courses.
Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Education
The Ph.D. program is ideal for students who are interested in being leaders and change agents through rigorous research in the new and exciting emerging field of engineering education, for students interested in engineering faculty positions in universities of all types, for those who wish to pursue careers in engineering policy, engineering students with a strong interest in educational research, corporate training management, university assessment staff or administrative faculty.
The cross-disciplinary PhD program is designed specifically to prepare graduates for careers across the entire range of engineering education. The inherent flexibility of the program allows students to tailor their curriculum and their research to prepare them to achieve their goals in engineering education.
Graduate Course Offerings
Our graduate pedagogical curricula cover a broad spectrum of practicum, research and communication. From the exploration of methods in engineering education research to strategy development in improving communication skills in engineering students, our courses continue to evolve and remain on the cusp of innovation.

The 15 faculty members in Engineering Education are among the most diverse of any department in the College of Engineering. A glance at our faculty page easily shows the gender and ethnic diversity. We also collectively hold degrees in aerospace engineering, agricultural engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, engineering mechanics, engineering physics, industrial and systems engineering,materials science, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, and chemistry.

Employment Opportunities for Graduate Students
Graduate student with freshman workshop
- We have both GRA and GTA opportunities for Engineering Education PhD students. We occasionally hire GTAs and GRAs from other disciplines depending on the requirements of the specific position.
